Sensitivity!

What would I consider the greatest need in the world?

S E N S I T I V I T Y !

The world badly needs quite a large bunch of sensitive people. People who are thinking a little more than themselves. People who mite ask questions like...

a. Why is this kid begging on the road?

b. Has the watchman to my building had his meal today?

c. Why dont I help this blind man cross the street?

d. Why dont I listen to what she is trying to say before butting in?

e. Why dont I give my non-fitting clothes to my driver who has been wearing the same shirt for the last 3 days?

g. Does the uncle and aunty in their 70's who smile at me in church every Sunday need help in moving to their new house?

h. How could I make this crying child smile?

The world need sensitive people. Look around. Am I one?

Starting on 3rd Gear

We had this experience in Delhi where we hired a cab to get us to our hotel for the workshop on Day 2.

The cab looked all perfect till he started and we took our first few yards... apparently the car was not in itz best shape with the 1st and 2nd gears not falling in its place.
Hence we had to move directly on 3rd gear. We got a few not-so-good stares as the cab refused to move at a signal... the driver promptly left us wondering of our predicament and got under the vehicle to try to manually move the gears... lol!! Well... long story short... we finally did make it to the hotel!

Whatz so interesting about this incident is that we treat life like this at times. We tend to want to get into Gear 3 without using Gear 1 and 2. We expect results so quick that we get those stares at times and also get stuck half the way coz we didnt have or want to use Gears 1 and 2.

In order to have a good drive, the gears need to fall in at the right speed. Learning occurs with successful transitions from Lesson 1 to Lesson 2 to Lesson 3 and onwards.

In short, start at Lesson # 1 =)

New domains of Impact!

Yesterday, I had a meeting with a gentleman who is a Training Head of a company in Chennai. He shared about new areas that they are keen to focus. What I enjoyed about the discussion is that the areas that he shared are so much aligned to what I have been thinking and wanting to work in the LnD domain.

I realize the dire need for corporate training to be beyond business and more "personal" development. A domain where individuals, their families, and homes are part of the intervention. I am interested in a domain where we impact people and their lifestyles - not just what they are at work.

I look forward to these new domains. Domains where we impact families and communities with our learning initiatives!

Beyond Delhi and Mumbai

Today morning I got back to Chennai after 8 days of travelling with the GreenBooks team for the ROI workshops in Delhi and Mumbai. I would say it was a good time!

Beyond all the travel and learner engagement, I have come to realize all the more that life is so precious and people are so precious.

It is so easy to create a simulated environment of learning and engagement... all you need is a trainer with good content knowledge and learner sensitivity.

But... beyond all we can do or display, beyond every learning design & delivery... I have to ask...
How easy is it to make a heart smile in your classroom?
How easy is it to build relationships where people believe that you are genuinely concerned about them?
How easy is it to help people shed their masks and be who they are?

I am happy about this trip I made to Delhi and Mumbai. I am very content with the extent to which we have helped L&D professionals improve their programs. What is beyond all this?

Business begins and ends with transactions... but beyond these... are a bunch of "REAL" people and Relationships matter!

Dear L&D fraternity -What can we do about building relationships?

Using Ice Melters

I see the need for ice melters in sessions. These could be as simple as sharing real-life stories or creating situations to engage participants during sessions.

I feel people express themselves more freely when there is the relevance to their day-to-day lives.... lives they live outside of work and its impact on the way they think and behave... during lunch breaks, i see having small conversations of family, weather, "food"!!, help bridge the divide and melt the walls that we generally carry around when we are with new people.

Today at the Mumbai ROI workshop, we had participants share their learning experiences, add value to others' projects... and have more meaningful and less threatening conversations. Gr8 group dynamics. Stemming out of participants having more open communication.

we need ice melters coz people matter!

Hello Mumbai!!

I am so happy to be in Mumbai!

Many reasons...

a. First visit!

b. My dad started his career in Mumbai, Andheri East, near Chakala... and I am staying in a serviced apartment in the same area!

c. Support facilitator for the GreenBooks ROI workshop with the Mumbai LnD professionals

d. It was a long time dream to visit Mumbai - to get the vibe and b a part of the busy streets... wow! Thank you God that it is happening!

I was at dinner with my friends Kedar and Aarthi last week in Cochin while sharing my desire to visit Mumbai as they were getting transfered here. I cant believe this visit happened so soon.

It is also ironical because Papa started his career in Mumbai ... and I am also at the verge of starting on a new career direction that too by starting off in places like Mumbai and Delhi.

Thank you Jesus for new opportunities... and the open doors. The wilderness has indeed paved new roads... and the streams have started to flow. Gr8 things ahead!!

on the road with GreenBooks!

This week is looking super cool with workshops in Delhi and Mumbai. I am super excited! Having a gr8 time in Delhi.

Today the ROI workshop kickstartedin Delhi... am getting a feel of the Delhi LnD vibe... not bad.

Visited the India Gate in the evening... was a gr8 experience. What a tribute to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the country... there are about 14K names etched in stone on the giant arch! neat!

Herez a group snap with all of us.
